Last of the Summer Wine is the longest running sitcom in the world.
Filming took place in Holmfirth and across the Holme Valley. You’ll recall familiar scenes when you visit Nora Batty’s steps, Sids Café and the Last of the Summer Wine Exhibition. Located in Compo’s former home, are photographs, memorabilia and a selection of unusual inventions dreamed up by the characters.
You can even stay the night in Nora Batty’s house, now a self catering cottage decorated as a shrine to Nora with memorabilia and signed photographs of cast and crew. Starting outside Sids Café, the Summer Wine Location Tour takes you to many of the best known locations across the Holme Valley with an interesting commentary enroute. Keen-eyed viewers may also recognise scenes from the TV series “Where the Heart Is”.
The village of Jackson Bridge, two miles away, is home to the Summer Wine Pub, the ‘White Horse Inn’. Its exterior has been featured in many episodes and its interior recreated in the TV studios. Rare behind the scenes, autographed photographs cover the walls.
